APAP Statement on Hurricane Harvey

Dear APAP Members and Colleagues,

Our hearts go out to those impacted by the catastrophic flooding from Hurricane Harvey and those still in the path of the storm. Our first concern is with everyone’s safety and well-being.

I have received a lot of inquiries regarding how we can help our performing arts colleagues and friends in the affected areas.

We are working with our national partner organizations to monitor the situation. As the days progress post-Harvey, we will begin to get the full assessment of the devastation and the best paths forward. APAP will keep you posted on initiatives to help those impacted, as those efforts emerge.

In the meantime, here’s how you can help:

1. Let us know if you hear of colleagues and friends who are impacted.

2. Consider donating to the American Red Cross or to the Greater Houston Community Foundation.

3. Refer to and share these valuable resources from the Texas Commission on the Arts and Houston-based Fresh Arts.

4. If you’d like to learn more about disaster management and preparedness, please join the Performing Arts Readiness project for a webinar on Tuesday, Sept.19 from 2-3:30 p.m. (EDT). (It will be repeated on Oct. 4.)

Please keep the victims of Hurricane Harvey in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Mario Garcia Durham
